The Moderator of the Providence Regular Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. is Reverend Dr. Gene A. Armstrong, the Pastor at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Bidwell, Ohio. Rev. Armstrong was called to the Ministry of Christ in 1989, and has served in various capacities of leadership within the Providence Association and also in the Ohio Baptist General Convention.
Currently, Moderator Armstrong serves as the Director of Christian Education for the Providence Association, and he also serves as the President of the Congress of Christian Education for the Ohio Baptist General Convention.
Moderator Armstrong believes, lives, and teaches God’s Word as given to us in Romans 12:1-2, which reads: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”.
The Providence Association is currently comprised of 13 churches in various Southeastern Ohio counties.
Moderator Armstrong is humbled by the opportunity, and honored to serve as Moderator to the churches and faithful Christian members throughout the Providence Association. The Providence Association was established in 1834 and is the oldest continuing baptist association in the world. Providence is the smallest of the Association Districts in the State of Ohio, but for the last 178 years, the members continue to remain firmly rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and His holy word. The members of Providence are committed to following our Moderator, as he in turn follows Christ.
Moderator Armstrong personally assists and gets involved in the work of the Providence Laymen, area youth programs and retreats, nursing home ministries, and community service. He is a firm supporter of all of the Providence Association Auxiliaries, and will make every effort to attend and participate in various church functions.
Moderator Armstrong is committed through his faith in God to continually reach out to others in promoting the cause of Christ. We thank God for his total commitment and spiritual faith, and for his teaching and spiritual leadership as our Moderator in the Providence Association.
